Web design outside Perth, done from Perth by the person who builds it.

Kovus is Josh Waller, working from Atwell in Perth's southern suburbs. Four of the eight client websites so far are for businesses in New South Wales and Victoria, and every one was scoped, written and built from Perth. Every build runs remotely from Perth, by phone, video call and email. Website builds cost A$500 to A$1,000; see pricing.

How a build runs when you are not in Perth.

A website does not need anyone on site. What it needs is an hour or two of your time on the phone, photos of real jobs, and a person who reads your area properly before writing a page about it. The time difference helps more than it hurts: the end of your working day is the middle of mine.

  1. 01

A call first, by phone or video

We talk through what the business does, the jobs you want more of and where they come from. On-site meetings are only offered around Perth, so for a business in another state the whole build runs by phone, video call and email.

  2. 02

A written quote before anything starts

Every page, integration and launch check is listed in the accepted quote, with the price, before the build starts. Only the work the accepted quote lists is included.

  3. 03

Built in Perth, checked on your phone

I write and build the site myself in Perth. You review it on a preview address, on your own phone and computer, and send changes by email or on a call.

  4. 04

Live on your domain, and yours

The site goes live on your own domain. You own the website, content, domain and source code. A typical build takes about four weeks from kickoff to launch.

Perth hours, in NSW, Victoria or Tasmania time

Josh works Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm in Perth (AWST). Western Australia has no daylight saving, so the gap is two hours for half the year and three for the other half.
WhenIn Perth (AWST)In NSW, Victoria or Tasmania
October to April, daylight saving8am to 6pm11am to 9pm (AEDT)
April to October8am to 6pm10am to 8pm (AEST)

Daylight saving in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania runs from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April (NSW Government). A call after knock-off at 5pm on the east coast is 2pm or 3pm in Perth, depending on the season, so it lands in the middle of the working day.

The same prices as Perth, and what SEO can do from here.

A standard build is A$500 to A$1,000 and a Premium build for a bigger site starts at A$1,000, quoted in writing, with nothing added for distance.

The SEO plan, from A$197 a month, works on your Google Business Profile, your Search Console and your own pages, and none of that depends on where Kovus is. What it cannot do is lend you Kovus's Perth listing, or place your business in the map results of a town it is not near: distance from the person searching is one of the three things Google says it weighs, and Google decides those results. For a business outside Perth, the plan's work is your own listing and the organic results under the map.

A$500 to A$1,000, quoted in writing for the pages and integrations the business needs. A Premium build for a bigger site starts at A$1,000. What Premium covers.
Hosting and edits
A$97 a month covers hosting, security, backups and unlimited edits. What website maintenance covers.
SEO and Google Business Profile

Questions from owners outside Perth.

How does Kovus work with a business outside Perth?
Kovus is one person, Josh Waller, working from Atwell in Perth's southern suburbs, and every build outside Perth runs by phone, video call and email.
Can we meet in person?
On-site meetings are offered across the Perth metro area only. Everywhere else the build runs by phone, video call and email, which is how all three client builds outside WA were done: Mannering Park and Cessnock in New South Wales, and Dallas in Melbourne.
Will a web designer in Perth hurt my local search results?
Where the designer sits is not part of it. Google says its local results weigh relevance, distance and prominence, and all three are about your business: what it does, where it is and how well known it is. Your Business Profile, your address or service area and the pages on your own site are what count, and a Perth designer can work on all of them from Perth.
My town is not listed. Can you still build my site?
Yes. A business anywhere in Australia gets the same build at the same price, run the same way by phone, video call and email. The scope call is where your own towns and suburbs get worked out, and the site gets a page for each one you really work in.
How much does a website for a business outside Perth cost?
A standard build costs A$500 to A$1,000, quoted in writing for the pages and integrations the business needs. A Premium build, for a bigger site built to a higher finish, starts at A$1,000. Ongoing work is optional: A$97 a month covers hosting, security, backups and unlimited edits, and from A$197 a month adds SEO and Google Business Profile work.
Who owns the website, and is there a contract?
The client owns the website, content, domain and source code from launch. The monthly plans are month to month with no minimum term, and cancelling takes effect at the end of the current paid month.
Will the site rank on Google?
No quote includes a ranking, because Google decides that. The build covers the pages, structured data and mobile speed that search engines read. The SEO plan then works on the Business Profile, Search Console, directory listings and review requests each month, with a report on what changed.

Google's own explanation of local results is on its help page, How to improve your local ranking on Google.
