Web design in Bathurst for trades working old houses and cold winters, built remotely from Perth.

Bathurst is a regional city with a long building history and a hard winter. Its houses run from heritage stock in the oldest streets to new builds on the edges, and the jobs people search for change with the season as much as with the suburb. Josh builds the site in Perth, and the job runs by phone, video call and email. Website builds cost A$500 to A$1,000; see pricing.

Bathurst Region’s own heritage guide calls Bathurst Australia’s oldest inland European settlement, and two centuries of building leave a lot of old houses. Bathurst Regional Council maps heritage conservation areas across Bathurst and West Bathurst, Kelso, Evans Plains, Peel, Perthville, Rockley, Hill End, Sofala, Trunkey Creek and Wattle Flat, and runs a heritage advisory service and small grants for owners. Repainting, re-roofing, joinery and repairs on those buildings are a different job from the same work on a new house, and the people who own them search for someone who has done it before.

Then there is the weather. The Bureau of Meteorology’s averages for the Bathurst Agricultural Station put the mean July minimum at 0.6°C, and on average close to 13 nights in July fall to zero or below. Heating, hot water, insulation and frozen pipes become urgent through the winter, and a search made on a cold morning wants a quick answer on a phone.

The city also fills up. The council says it serves a population of 44,000 and more than a million visitors a year, and the Bathurst 1000 brings a race week to Mount Panorama, usually in October. Charles Sturt University has about 2,500 students on its Bathurst campus. A trade site here is read by people who have just arrived as well as by people who have lived here for decades.

A Bathurst trade site that works follows that pattern: pages for the services people search for in each season, project pages that show work on older houses, and pages only for the villages the business actually drives out to.

/ A Kovus build in regional NSW

A regional NSW builder, with its licence checked before launch.

Probuild Construction Co homepage: Built from the frame up headline, published mobile number and 3D timber-frame house
Probuild Construction Co's website. The business is based in Cessnock, in the Hunter, and works across the Hunter to Newcastle. Probuild Construction Co, Cessnock, NSW: about 180 km from Bathurst in a straight line.

Probuild Construction Co is Ewan's owner-operated carpentry and construction business in Cessnock, in the Hunter. Before the build it had an Instagram account and a Facebook page, and the domain matching the business name redirected to Facebook.

What shipped is a 35-page site at probuildco.com.au: five service pages, from decks and outdoor living to new builds and farmhouse work, 14 suburb pages from Cessnock across the Hunter to Newcastle, four project pages built from real jobs and three guides. Pricing is handled honestly: there is no rate card, and the pricing page explains that height, cover, access and timber all move the number.

What a Bathurst trade can take from it is the trust layer. Before launch, Probuild's NSW contractor licence was checked as current on the public Verify NSW register and the ABN on the Australian Business Register, so both went on the site as facts a customer can check rather than claims. Bathurst is in New South Wales too, so the same register and the same check apply to a licensed trade there.

/ Built remotely from Perth

How a Bathurst build runs after a day on a cold site.

Bathurst keeps Sydney time, so from April to October Perth is two hours behind and during daylight saving three. A call after a day on site in July, when it is dark early and too cold to be outside, is mid-afternoon in Perth. The build needs one scope call, photos of real jobs, your licence and ABN, and the towns and villages you actually travel to.

  1. 01

A call first, by phone or video

We talk through what the business does, the jobs you want more of and where they come from. On-site meetings are only offered around Perth, so for a business in Bathurst the whole build runs by phone, video call and email.

  2. 02

A written quote before anything starts

Every page, integration and launch check is listed in the accepted quote, with the price, before the build starts. Only the work the accepted quote lists is included.

  3. 03

Built in Perth, checked on your phone

I write and build the site myself in Perth. You review it on a preview address, on your own phone and computer, and send changes by email or on a call.

  4. 04

Live on your domain, and yours

The site goes live on your own domain. You own the website, content, domain and source code. A typical build takes about four weeks from kickoff to launch.

Perth hours, in Bathurst time

Josh works Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm in Perth (AWST). Western Australia has no daylight saving, so the gap is two hours for half the year and three for the other half.
WhenIn Perth (AWST)In Bathurst
October to April, daylight saving8am to 6pm11am to 9pm (AEDT)
April to October8am to 6pm10am to 8pm (AEST)

Daylight saving in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania runs from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April (NSW Government). A call after knock-off at 5pm on the east coast is 2pm or 3pm in Perth, depending on the season, so it lands in the middle of the working day.

What a Bathurst website costs, and what the monthly plans can do from Perth.

The prices are the same as for a business in Perth, with nothing added for distance, because the whole build runs by phone, video call and email. A standard build is A$500 to A$1,000 and a Premium build for a bigger site starts at A$1,000.

The SEO plan, from A$197 a month, works on your own Google Business Profile and pages, and the work is the same from Perth as it would be from Orange or Lithgow. It cannot place a Bathurst business in the map results for a search made in a town it is not near, and Kovus's Perth listing has nothing to do with it: Google weighs distance and decides the map. The plan keeps your listing complete and current through the season, asks for reviews the way Google allows, and works on the service and village pages that compete in the organic results.

Questions from owners in Bathurst and the Central West.

Should a Bathurst trade's site change with the seasons?
It should know what season it is. The Bureau of Meteorology records an average of 12.9 days in July at or below 0°C at the Bathurst Agricultural Station, so heating, hot water, insulation and burst pipes come up through winter, while decks, painting and outdoor work wait for spring. Service pages for both, and a homepage that can lead with the one that is in season, cover the whole year.
We work on old houses. How does the site show that?
With the houses. Bathurst Regional Council lists heritage conservation areas from Bathurst and West Bathurst and Kelso out to Perthville, Rockley, Hill End and Sofala, and work on those buildings is its own kind of job. Project pages that name the street, the era of the house and the materials used show a homeowner that you have done it before, which a gallery of unlabelled photos cannot.
Do the villages around Bathurst need their own pages?
Only the ones you really work in. A village like Rockley or Peel is a drive out of town, and a page for it should say how often you go and what you do there. A village you have never worked in belongs in the service area list, not on a page of its own.
How does a Bathurst trade earn the trust of someone new to town?
By putting on the site what a newcomer cannot get from a neighbour: the licence number where the work needs one, the ABN, the suburbs and villages you cover, and photos of finished jobs with the area named. Someone who has just moved for work or study arrives without a list of local trades, so the site has to do the job a recommendation would.
How much does web design in Bathurst cost?
A standard build costs A$500 to A$1,000, quoted in writing for the pages and integrations the business needs. A Premium build, for a bigger site built to a higher finish, starts at A$1,000. Ongoing work is optional: A$97 a month covers hosting, security, backups and unlimited edits, and from A$197 a month adds SEO and Google Business Profile work.
Who owns the website, and is there a contract?
The client owns the website, content, domain and source code from launch. The monthly plans are month to month with no minimum term, and cancelling takes effect at the end of the current paid month.
Will the site rank on Google?
No quote includes a ranking, because Google decides that. The build covers the pages, structured data and mobile speed that search engines read. The SEO plan then works on the Business Profile, Search Console, directory listings and review requests each month, with a report on what changed.
