// seo for plumbers · from A$197 a month

SEO for plumbers, from the 10pm leak to the booked hot water swap.

A burst pipe ends in a call within minutes. A hot water swap is compared over days, and a backflow test is booked against a due date. The A$197 monthly plan works on all three: the Google Business Profile, Search Console, the service and suburb pages, and one report a month.

/ How plumbing is searched

What does SEO for plumbers involve?

Plumbing jobs are searched on four different clocks, so SEO for plumbers is four kinds of work run every month: a Google Business Profile kept ready for the urgent call, a page of its own for each job, suburb pages where there is real work to show, and the licences set out where a customer can check them.

A ceiling leak cannot wait an hour; a backflow test can wait for its due date. That gap decides whether the search is answered on the map or on a page, and so where the month's work goes.

  • Right now

    Burst pipes and leaks

    emergency plumber near me

    Where it is answered
The map results at the top of a local search, on a phone. The Google Business Profile does the talking: hours, service areas and whether the profile looks looked after.
    The monthly work
Hours and service areas kept current, emergency work listed as a service, and posts with photos from recent jobs.
  • This week

    Hot water

    hot water system replacement

    Where it is answered
The web results. People search the unit type they already have, such as storage, continuous flow or heat pump.
    The monthly work
A hot water page of its own with clean titles and structured data, checked in Search Console for the searches that reach it.
  • Booked ahead

    Blocked drains

    blocked drain plumber + suburb

    Where it is answered
Both the map results and the web results. CCTV inspection and jetting are searched by name.
    The monthly work
A drains page that names the methods you use, and a suburb page where there is real work and photos to show there.
  • On a due date

    Backflow testing and gas

    backflow testing + city

    Where it is answered
The web results, read by a facilities or strata manager who checks the credential before the price.
    The monthly work
Separate pages for backflow and gas, each showing the credential that covers that work, kept valid as structured data.

Why a plumbing site splits these jobs onto separate pages is covered on the website design for plumbers page.

/ The Google Business Profile

Does a plumber need a Google Business Profile?

Yes. A burst pipe search is answered in the map results on a phone, and what the caller reads there is the Google Business Profile. A plumber who works at customers' homes can run a service-area profile with the address hidden. The business stays the verified owner, and Josh works on the profile as a manager.

Setting the profile up from scratch is covered step by step in the Google Business Profile guide. The rest of the monthly work is on the SEO plan page. Where the profile sits among everything else a plumbing business can do, in order and with what each step costs, is in the guide to marketing for plumbers.

  • Hours that match who answers

After-hours and weekend hours go on the profile only when someone picks up at those times. A profile that says 24/7 and then rings out sends the caller to the next plumber.

  • Each job listed as its own service

Burst pipes, hot water, blocked drains, gas fitting and backflow testing listed separately, each pointing at the page that covers it, rather than one line that says plumbing.

  • Service areas from the suburb pages

Up to 20 service areas, set by suburb or postcode and matched to the suburbs where the website has real work to show. Google does not allow a radius.

  • Posts from finished jobs

A hot water unit swapped, a drain cleared on camera, a backflow device tested: posted with your own photos when the job is real, not on a schedule for its own sake.

  • Review requests once the job is signed off

A review link or QR code and a short message to send after the work is done. Nothing paid, nothing incentivised, and no filtering out customers who might be unhappy.

  • Profile calls in the report

Business Profile numbers, such as calls and website clicks, sit in the monthly report beside form enquiries and Search Console, so the urgent work shows up as numbers.

/ Licensed work

Do gas and backflow licences matter for plumber SEO?

Yes, because the customer checks them first. Someone with a gas smell at the meter, or a strata manager with a backflow test due, looks at who is allowed to do the work before comparing prices. So each credential goes on the page it covers and in the structured data, and none is shown that cannot be checked.

On the page the credential covers
Gas fitting on the gas page, backflow on the backflow page, each with the credential behind it. A homeowner with a gas smell reads the gas page, not a badge in the footer.
In the structured data as well
Donza Plumbing publishes its gas fitting, backflow prevention and thermostatic mixing valve accreditations as structured data, with NSW Fair Trading named as the recognising body, so search engines read the same facts as the customer.
Left off when it cannot be checked
AquaCore Plumbing publishes no licence number, and its about page says why: the number has not been verified. Gas or backflow work goes on a site only with the credential that covers it.
Updated together
When a licence is renewed or an accreditation is added, the page copy and the structured data change in the same edit, so the two never disagree.

How the credentials are set out on a live site is in the Donza Plumbing case study. What WA's plumbing regulations say about the licence number in advertising and on quotes is in the guide to licence numbers on WA tradie websites.

/ Two plumbing builds

How long does SEO take for a plumbing business?

There is no fixed date. It comes down to three things: the starting point, how many other plumbers cover your suburbs and what Google changes along the way. Both plumbing builds below began with an Instagram account and no website. On the plan, each month's report measures the business against its own starting point.

This is what each build put in place for the searches above, and where each one started.

/ The first three months

What do the first 90 days of SEO look like for a plumber?

Three rounds of the same four stages: checked, fixed and updated, kept current, reported. Month one sets the baseline for the business, and months two and three are measured against it. This is the order of the work for a plumber. It is not a ranking timeline, and day 90 is not a contract date.

  1. Before day 1

    The written quote, then access

The quote sets out what the month covers before the work starts. You add Josh as a manager on the Google Business Profile and stay its verified owner. If another builder made the website, you provide editor access to your platform and the site keeps its host.

  2. Month 1 · Checked

The first checks become the baseline

The site and the profile are checked end to end: which pages Google has found and listed, page speed, titles and headings, structured data, Maps positions across your service area and your business details across the web. What turns up for emergency, hot water, drains and gas searches is the baseline each later report is set against.

  3. Month 1 · Fixed and updated

Search Console fixes and the job pages

Page errors are fixed, new and changed pages are sent to Google to be picked up, and the structured data is kept valid. The hot water, drains, gas and backflow pages get clean titles, and each credential is matched between the page copy and the structured data.

  4. Month 1 · Kept current

The profile, the listings and the review link

Profile hours are set to who answers the phone, each job becomes its own service and the service areas follow the suburb pages. Listings on Bing Places, Hotfrog and Localsearch are matched to the same name and number, and you get a review link or QR code to send after a finished job.

  5. End of month 1 · Reported

    The first report

One plain-English report puts calls, form enquiries, Google Analytics, Search Console and Business Profile numbers side by side, with what was done that month and what comes next.

  6. Months 2 and 3

The same four stages, fed by finished jobs

Each round runs again. Pages and photos are updated from the hot water units, drains and gas jobs you finished, a suburb page is added only when there is real work and photos to show there, and each report is compared with the baseline.

The four stages, and everything that gets checked in the first of them, are laid out on the SEO plan page.

/ The two monthly plans

How much does SEO for plumbers cost?

From A$197 a month on the SEO plan, month to month with no lock-in. That covers the profile, credential and suburb page work on this page, plus hosting, backups and unlimited edits on a Kovus-built site. A new plumbing website is a separate build at A$500 to A$1,000. The plan also runs on a site Kovus did not build.

The two Kovus monthly plans for a plumbing business: what each costs, what the month includes and which websites it suits
PlanPriceWhat the month includesWhich websites
Hosting and editsA$97 a monthA$1,164 over a year
  • Hosting and CDN
  • A security and performance pass
  • Uptime monitoring
  • Verified backups
  • Unlimited edits
A plumbing website Kovus built and hosts.

The A$97 plan keeps a Kovus-built plumbing site hosted, backed up and edited, and the A$197 plan adds the search work. A bigger business that needs more work each month is quoted in writing before it starts. The full comparison is on the SEO plan and pricing pages.

For scale, GoDaddy's Australian website cost article puts SEO, when it is bought, at A$300 to A$3,500 a month. That is a published market range for any business, not a Kovus price for a plumber.

Already have a plumbing website?

If another builder made it, the A$197 plan is still available for a website Kovus did not build: it runs the profile, Search Console and the monthly report. The site stays with its current host, and new hot water, drains or suburb pages are built in your platform with editor access you provide. You keep ownership of every account.

/ Straight answers

What can't SEO promise a plumber?

A ranking, a spot in the map results or a mention in an AI answer. Google and the other platforms decide who shows up when someone searches for a plumber, and distance from the caller counts. The work is measured, and the monthly report shows where the business stands and what moved.

  • A spot in the map results

Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence. A plumber across town from the caller can do everything right and still sit below one around the corner.

  • Night calls nobody takes

After-hours work is shown only if someone answers. No amount of SEO picks up a 10pm call.

  • Reviews you did not earn

No paid, incentivised or made-up reviews, and no screening out customers before they are asked.

  • Licences you do not hold

Gas, backflow and other licensed work goes on the site only with the credential that covers it.

  • AI answers

Whether ChatGPT or Google's AI features name a plumber is up to each platform. It is checked and reported, not promised.

The hot water, drains and suburb pages, and the licence details on them, belong to the plumbing business. The client owns the website, content, domain and source code. Optional ongoing services are month-to-month with no minimum term. The client may cancel at any time, effective at the end of the current paid month.

Questions about SEO for plumbers.

How much does SEO for a plumber cost?
From A$197 a month on the monthly SEO plan. On a site Kovus built, that price also covers hosting, a security and performance pass, uptime monitoring, verified backups and unlimited edits. A bigger business that needs more work each month is quoted in writing before it starts. There is no minimum term, and a new plumbing website is quoted separately at A$500 to A$1,000.
What does SEO for plumbers involve each month?
The Business Profile, the hot water, drains, gas and backflow pages and the suburb pages are checked against what Search Console shows. Problems are fixed and pages are updated from finished jobs. One plain-English report puts calls, form enquiries, Google Analytics, Search Console and Business Profile numbers side by side.
Do emergency plumbing and hot water need separate pages?
Yes. They are different searches on different clocks. Burst pipes and leaks are a tap-to-call path. Hot water is searched by unit type, such as storage, continuous flow or heat pump. Blocked drains are searched by method. One services list cannot answer all three.
Can a plumber show on Google Maps without a shopfront?
Yes. A plumber who works at customers' homes can run a service-area Business Profile with the address hidden. Google allows up to 20 service areas by city, postcode or other area, but not a radius.
Will you show my plumbing and gas licences?
Only credentials you hold and that can be checked. Each one goes on the work it covers, in the page copy and in the structured data. Gas work is kept off a site when the gas credential is not held.
Should my profile say I do 24-hour emergency work?
Only if someone answers at those hours. Emergency work listed on the profile and the site brings night calls, and a missed one goes to the next plumber. If nights are not covered, the hours say so.
How soon will SEO make a difference for a plumbing business?
That depends on where the business starts, how many plumbers work the same suburbs and what Google does. Each monthly report measures the business against its own baseline instead of a promised date.
