// nowra and the shoalhaven
Web design in Nowra and along the Shoalhaven coast, built remotely from Perth.
Almost one in four private dwellings in the Shoalhaven was empty on Census night, more than twice the national rate. A lot of the people who book a trade for a house here do not live in it, and the website is all they see of the business before they pay. Josh builds the site in Perth, and the work runs by phone, video call and email. Website builds cost A$500 to A$1,000; see pricing.
/ Who searches in the Shoalhaven, and for what
A hundred beaches, fifty-odd towns and a naval air station. Not one market, several.
- 23.1%
- of private dwellings were unoccupied on Census night, against 10.1% across Australia. ABS QuickStats
- 12,000+
- owners of homes in the Shoalhaven who live outside the area, by the NSW Rural Fire Service's count. NSW RFS district pack
The Shoalhaven City Council describes its area as a hundred beaches and about fifty towns and villages, about a two-hour drive and 160 kilometres from Sydney. The NSW Rural Fire Service’s district pack measures 160 kilometres of coast from Berry to Durras Lake and names the major population centres as Nowra and Bomaderry, the Jervis Bay and St Georges Basin villages, and Ulladulla and Milton.
Three groups search for trades here, and they want different things. The first is the people who live in the Shoalhaven all year, an older population than Australia as a whole, with a median age of 48 at the 2021 Census against 38 nationally. The second is owners who live somewhere else. On Census night 23.1% of private dwellings in the City of Shoalhaven were unoccupied, and the RFS counts more than 12,000 owners of homes in the area who live outside it. The same pack says tourism can lift the population to about 320,000 in the warmer months. Those owners book cleaning, maintenance, repairs and repainting from a distance and choose on how clearly a business explains itself.
The third is Defence. Defence was the largest single industry of employment in the Shoalhaven at the 2021 Census, at 4.1%, and the RFS pack describes HMAS Albatross, in the Shoalhaven, as the Navy’s only air station and the home of the Fleet Air Arm. A family posted to the base arrives without the number of a local plumber or electrician, and a search is where they start.
A website that serves all three needs pages for the towns the business really covers, written for the people who live there and for the people who only visit their houses.
Trade pages for Nowra businesses
- Painter website designCoastal houses and holiday homes repainted between bookings, often for an owner who is not there.
- Plumber website designThe trade page behind the Donza Plumbing build, for plumbers and gasfitters working a long run of coastal towns.
/ A Kovus build on the NSW coast
A coastal NSW plumber with a page for each suburb it covers.

Donza Plumbing is a family-owned plumbing and gas company at Mannering Park on the northern Central Coast. Before the build its whole public presence was an Instagram account that said to DM for a quote. There was no website and no Google Business Profile.
What shipped is a site that went live with 139 pages covering 100 suburbs, from the lakes on the Central Coast up through Lake Macquarie to Newcastle, and has since grown to 150 pages and 103 suburbs. Thirteen service pages split the trade by job, and the gas fitting, backflow prevention and thermostatic mixing valve accreditations are published on the site and in the code Google reads, with NSW Fair Trading named as the body that recognises them.
What carries over to the Shoalhaven is how the suburb pages handle distance. Donza's page for The Entrance says the business is about 20 km away in a straight line and that a job there is booked as a dedicated visit at the southern end of its map. A Shoalhaven business covering both Nowra and Ulladulla needs the same plain answer on every town page: how far, how often, and what is worth the trip.

How a Nowra build runs the way a lot of Shoalhaven work already runs.
A lot of trade work here is already done at a distance: an owner who lives somewhere else books the job by phone, gets photos afterwards and pays by transfer. A website build runs much the same way. One call to scope it, a written quote, a preview to check on your phone, and email in between.
- 01
A call first, by phone or video
We talk through what the business does, the jobs you want more of and where they come from. On-site meetings are only offered around Perth, so for a business in Nowra the whole build runs by phone, video call and email.
- 02
A written quote before anything starts
Every page, integration and launch check is listed in the accepted quote, with the price, before the build starts. Only the work the accepted quote lists is included.
- 03
Built in Perth, checked on your phone
I write and build the site myself in Perth. You review it on a preview address, on your own phone and computer, and send changes by email or on a call.
- 04
Live on your domain, and yours
The site goes live on your own domain. You own the website, content, domain and source code. A typical build takes about four weeks from kickoff to launch.
Perth hours, in Nowra time
| When | In Perth (AWST) | In Nowra |
|---|---|---|
| October to April, daylight saving | 8am to 6pm | 11am to 9pm (AEDT) |
| April to October | 8am to 6pm | 10am to 8pm (AEST) |
Daylight saving in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania runs from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April (NSW Government). A call after knock-off at 5pm on the east coast is 2pm or 3pm in Perth, depending on the season, so it lands in the middle of the working day.
What a Nowra website costs, and what the monthly plans can do from Perth.
The prices are the same as for a business in Perth, with nothing added for distance, because the whole build runs by phone, video call and email. A standard build is A$500 to A$1,000 and a Premium build for a bigger site starts at A$1,000.
The SEO plan, from A$197 a month, works on your own Google Business Profile and pages from Perth. It cannot move a Nowra business into the map results for a search made in Ulladulla or Huskisson: Google weighs how close a business is to the person searching, decides the map itself, and Kovus's Perth listing plays no part. What the plan can do is keep your profile's service areas, photos and categories right, ask customers for reviews the way Google allows, and work on the town pages that compete in the organic results, which is how a business reaches towns it serves but is not in.
- Website build
- A$500 to A$1,000, quoted in writing for the pages and integrations the business needs. A Premium build for a bigger site starts at A$1,000. What Premium covers.
- Hosting and edits
- A$97 a month covers hosting, security, backups and unlimited edits. What website maintenance covers.
- SEO and Google Business Profile
- From A$197 a month, adding Business Profile work, Search Console, directory listings, review requests and a monthly report. What the SEO plan covers.
Both monthly plans are optional and month to month with no minimum term. You own the website, content, domain and source code. Full pricing and terms.
