Kovus

// atwell and the city of cockburn

Web design in Cockburn and Atwell from a studio based here, for Perth businesses from Jandakot to Coogee.

Kovus is one person, Josh Waller, based in Atwell, in the City of Cockburn. It is a service-area business, so there is no shopfront to walk into and no street address is published. What there is instead is a developer in the same council area as the trades, shops and workshops on this page. The other area pages on this site are written about a place, and this one is written from it. Website builds cost A$500 to A$1,000; see pricing.

/ How local search behaves in the City of Cockburn

Cockburn is a council, not a suburb, and search has to work out which part you mean.

Nobody’s address says Cockburn. The City of Cockburn lists its suburbs in three wards, east, central and west, and the only one that carries the council’s name is Cockburn Central. A Google Business Profile records the suburb a business is actually in, which here means Atwell, Success, Spearwood or Bibra Lake. So someone who types plumber Cockburn is asking Google to turn a council name into places, and a page can only help with that if it says both things: the real suburb, and that the suburb sits in the City of Cockburn. A site that only ever says Perth is no part of that answer. Neither is one that says Cockburn and never names a suburb inside it.

The east ward is the newest part of the city, and it is where Kovus is based. The City’s history site records that Atwell and Success were not developed until the early 1990s, while Hammond Park and Aubin Grove were only named in 2002 and 2003. That puts three decades of housing side by side. A house from the first 1990s streets in Atwell or Success is now about thirty years old, the age where things get replaced rather than installed, while the newest blocks are still waiting on what the builder left out. A trade working this side of Cockburn is answering both searches, and one page that lumps them together answers neither well.

The middle of the city keeps different hours. The City’s own business precincts map describes Cockburn Central as a transit-oriented hub anchored by Cockburn Gateway Shopping City and Cockburn ARC, next to the train station, with Beeliar Drive and Armadale Road as its main roads. Retail, health and hospitality businesses there are searched by people already on the move, on a phone, and what settles it is the opening hours, the parking and how quickly the page can be read. Bibra Lake is the opposite case. The City describes its Bibra Lake industrial precinct as a hub of construction, engineering, manufacturing, transport and warehousing businesses, and lists Phoenix Business Park among its business parks. Jandakot City, at Jandakot Airport, is a commercial and industrial development. Businesses in those precincts are searched from a desk on a weekday, by what they make, stock or repair, and the suburb name matters far less than the capability.

The west ward is older, and then at the coast it is new again. Hamilton Hill and Coolbellup carry state housing from the 1950s and early 1960s, and Spearwood’s old market-garden blocks only began giving way to housing in the mid-1990s. The City describes the same ward as home to a rapidly growing coastal community. Further south, Henderson holds the Australian Marine Complex, which the City describes as a centre for defence and marine manufacturing. A renovation carpenter in Hamilton Hill, a landscaper working the new coastal blocks and a supplier to the shipyards at Henderson are all Cockburn businesses, and they share almost nothing in how they get found.

None of this argues for a page per suburb. The test is the one this site applies everywhere: a suburb earns a page when the business can say something true about working there that it could not say about the suburb next door. Where it cannot, the suburb belongs in the service area. For a business based in Cockburn, the home suburb is the page to get right first: the real suburb, the ward it sits in, the roads the jobs come in on and photos from nearby streets.

CJH Concrete's homepage. The crew is based in Currambine, in Perth's northern corridor.

CJH Concrete is a crew based in Currambine, in Perth's northern corridor, pouring exposed aggregate, honed concrete, slabs and shed pads. When that build started there was no website and no Google Business Profile either, only an Instagram account with the phone number in the captions.

What shipped is a 44-page site with sixteen service-area pages, each one telling Google which suburb it serves, and one of the sixteen is Beeliar, in the City of Cockburn's central ward. It is there because the crew has worked there. One of the site's three project pages is a Jacaranda White exposed-aggregate driveway and entry in Beeliar, with real job photography. The Beeliar page says the suburb is well south of the crew's usual patch, 55 km from its base, and that Beeliar jobs are taken on selectively.

That is the rule a Cockburn business should hold its own site to. A suburb gets a page when there is a real job behind it, and the page says plainly how far the business will travel for the next one. For a trade based in Atwell or Spearwood, that usually means the home suburbs first, then a page for each place the job photos already come from.

What a Cockburn build actually includes.

The scope is the same as any Kovus build: service and suburb pages, a website that supports the Google Business Profile, mobile speed, structured data, a short enquiry path and written ownership of the site. What changes in Cockburn is which suburbs earn a page and what each one says, which is the local work described above. The full list is on the Perth page, under everything a Kovus website build includes.

Questions from owners in Cockburn and Atwell.

Where is Kovus based?
In Atwell WA 6164, in the east ward of the City of Cockburn. Kovus is one person, Josh Waller, and it is a service-area business, so there is no shopfront and no street address is published. The phone number, the email address and the ABN are on the contact page. A trade run from a house in Atwell or Aubin Grove can be set up the same way, with a Google Business Profile that shows a service area instead of the house.
Can I meet Josh in person, or is it all phone and email?
Either. Projects usually run by phone, video and email because that keeps decisions quick, and on-site meetings are available across the Perth metro area. The City of Cockburn is the part of the metro area the Atwell base sits in, and meetings happen at your premises or on site.
I only work in Atwell, Success and Aubin Grove. Does a small service area make the website cheaper?
It usually makes the site smaller, and the price follows the scope. Builds cost A$500 to A$1,000, quoted in writing for the pages and integrations the business needs, and a business covering three suburbs needs fewer pages than one covering the whole metro area. Ongoing work is optional and month to month with no lock-in: hosting and unlimited edits are A$97 a month, and the SEO plan is from A$197 a month. The accepted quote lists every page before the build starts.
What Kovus work can I look at before I get in touch?
The case studies. Each one links the live site and says where the business is: CJH Concrete in Currambine, whose site has a Beeliar service-area page and a Beeliar driveway project, The Fruit Basket, a greengrocer in Mount Pleasant in the City of Melville, and the two roofing builds in Wangara and Mandurah. Open them on your phone, the way a customer would.
There is no suburb called Cockburn. Which name should my website and Business Profile use?
Both, in different places. The Business Profile takes the suburb the business is really in, and its service area takes the suburbs it really covers. The website can then say what the profile cannot: that Spearwood, Success or Bibra Lake is in the City of Cockburn, on the pages where that is true. People search the council name and the suburb name for the same job, and a site that carries only one of them has nothing to say to the other search. The only suburb with Cockburn in its name is Cockburn Central.
I run a workshop or warehouse in Bibra Lake or Jandakot. Is this still local SEO?
Partly. A buyer looking for an industrial supplier searches by what the business makes, stocks or repairs, usually from a desk on a weekday, and adds a place only to cut the list down. So the site is organised around capabilities, brands and lead times first, with the address, the estate, the opening hours and truck access treated as real content. The Business Profile still matters, because a buyer who has shortlisted two suppliers will check where each one is before driving to Bibra Lake or Jandakot.
How much does web design in Cockburn cost?
A standard build costs A$500 to A$1,000, quoted in writing for the pages and integrations the business needs. A Premium build, for a bigger site built to a higher finish, starts at A$1,000. Ongoing work is optional: A$97 a month covers hosting, security, backups and unlimited edits, and from A$197 a month adds SEO and Google Business Profile work.
Who owns the website, and is there a contract?
The client owns the website, content, domain and source code from launch. The monthly plans are month to month with no minimum term, and cancelling takes effect at the end of the current paid month.
Will the site rank on Google?
No quote includes a ranking, because Google decides that. The build covers the pages, structured data and mobile speed that search engines read. The SEO plan then works on the Business Profile, Search Console, directory listings and review requests each month, with a report on what changed.

/ The next step

Tell me which Cockburn suburbs the work comes from, and what the current site cannot do.

What the business does, which suburbs the jobs come from between Jandakot and the coast, and what the current site fails to do. I will reply with the sensible next step and what is needed for an exact scope.
