hipages can be worth it for a trade business that needs work this month and has the time to answer leads fast. It stops being worth it when each job you actually win costs more than the job can carry, or when the contract keeps billing after the leads stop paying. This guide gives you hipages’ own prices, the sum to run, the contract terms to get in writing and the alternatives.
The prices come from hipages’ own membership page, with the date they were checked. They change, and what a lead costs in credits varies by trade and area, so the number that counts is still the one on your own quote.
The short answer
Worth a look when
- You need jobs now and have no other steady source yet.
- You can answer a lead within minutes, not hours.
- Your jobs are large enough to carry the cost of each one you win.
- You have read the term, renewal and cancellation clauses and can live with them.
Not worth it when
- The cost per won job is more than the profit in the job.
- You cannot leave without paying out a term.
- It is your only source of work, with nothing you own building up beside it.
- You are too busy on the tools to answer leads when they arrive.
What hipages costs
hipages sells memberships: a monthly price that comes with a set of lead credits. The plans below are copied from hipages’ own membership costs page.
| Plan | Monthly price | Lead credits a month | Contract term | Renewal and cancellation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $139 + GST | 155 | 6-month introductory term, then 12 months | Renews automatically on a 12-month term. hipages says it tells you before it renews |
| Advanced | $249 + GST | 310 | 6-month introductory term, then 12 months | Renews automatically on a 12-month term. hipages says it tells you before it renews |
| Premium | $449 + GST | 595 | 6-month introductory term, then 12 months | Renews automatically on a 12-month term. hipages says it tells you before it renews |
| Platinum | $649 + GST | 850 | 6-month introductory term, then 12 months | Renews automatically on a 12-month term. hipages says it tells you before it renews |

The higher plans also list your business in more postcodes (1, 3, 5 and 10, from Starter to Platinum) and add an account manager. Paying a year upfront takes 5% off. The same page lists Essentials at $29 + GST a month, which is the job and business management app without leads, and a plan for businesses with more than 10 staff at $2,049 + GST a month. On cancelling, the page says you can cancel inside the seven-day cooling-off period if you haven’t accepted a lead, and that outside it you contact support.
The membership is not the price of a job. Every lead you take costs credits, and hipages’ lead credits policy says the number a lead takes depends on things such as the trade, the location, supply and demand, and the size of the job, and can change until the job is marked as hired. Ask what a typical lead in your trade and area costs in credits before you choose a plan.
Work out your cost per won job
Lead platforms charge in some mix of a subscription, a charge or credit for each lead, and sometimes a commission. The monthly fee on its own tells you very little. The number to track is what each job you actually won cost you.
Example only. These are not hipages' prices.
- Subscription for the month
- A$149
- Charges for 11 leads
- A$253
- Total paid
- A$402
- Jobs won from those leads
- 3
- Cost per won job
- A$134
Swap in the figures from your own invoices. Total paid, divided by jobs won.
Run it over three months, not one, because lead volume moves with the season. Then hold the result against the profit in a typical job. On a small repair, a cost like the one above can be most of the profit. On a bathroom renovation it is a small part of it. The same subscription can be a good buy for one trade and a poor one for another.
Count your time as well. A lead you quote and lose still cost you the drive and the hour.
What the ACCC found in 2023
In May 2023 the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission accepted a court-enforceable undertaking from hipages. hipages admitted it had likely engaged in misleading or deceptive conduct from October 2018 to January 2022 by failing to adequately disclose contract terms.
The ACCC said there was only a very short cooling-off period in which a subscriber could avoid paying an early termination fee, and that some people who tried to cancel an auto-renewed contract were told they would have to pay out the full 12-month term.
hipages undertook to clearly disclose its renewal and cancellation policies in its telephone scripts and email communications, to review its complaints handling, to review and seek to resolve outstanding complaints, and to put a consumer law compliance program in place.
That was 2023, and the undertaking was about disclosure. It does not tell you what a contract signed today says. It does tell you which clauses to read before you sign one.
Get these in writing before you sign
Ask for each one as a figure or a date
- The price per month, including GST
- The minimum term, in months
- Whether it renews automatically, and for how long
- How and when to give notice to stop a renewal
- The early termination fee, in dollars
- What a lead costs in your trade and area
- How many other businesses receive the same lead
- Whether unused lead credits expire
- When a bad lead is refunded, and how to claim it
- The renewal date, written in your own diary
If the answer to any of these only comes over the phone, ask for it by email before you agree to anything.
What tradies and reviewers say
Reviews of hipages come from both sides of the job, so check who wrote each one before you weigh it.
- ProductReview’s hipages page showed 9,398 reviews with an average of 3.7 out of 5 in October 2026. Customers and tradies both review there. Its user type filter has an option for reviewers who did work for someone, which shows the tradie side.
- CHOICE’s guide to finding a tradie online, last updated 11 July 2019, says hipages tends to charge tradespeople higher fees than most other tasker sites, depending on the package. It is written for customers and predates the ACCC undertaking, so read it as background rather than as a current price.
The alternatives
Each option below either builds something you keep or rents you access to someone else’s customers. Both can be useful. Only one of them is still there when you stop paying.
| Option | What it costs | What you keep if you stop |
|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Free to set up and run | The profile and every review on it |
| A website you own | A one-off build. Kovus builds cost A$500 to A$1,000 | The site, the domain and the content |
| Directory listings | Basic listings on Bing Places, Hotfrog and Localsearch are free | The listings |
| ServiceSeeking | A membership priced mostly on the number of leads it expects to send you, "as low as $129 inc GST per month for most members", with 20% off for quarterly billing and 40% off for annual billing. Source: its membership price update of 17 June 2025, checked 12 Oct 2026 | Nothing. The leads stop |
| Bark | Credits for each lead you choose to answer, with no commission. The credits a lead costs depend on the service and the size and scope of the job, and show on the lead before you respond. Credits bought from 1 November 2025 expire three months after purchase, and unused credits cannot be refunded. Source: Bark's help centre on what a credit costs, checked 12 Oct 2026 | Nothing. The leads stop |
| Airtasker | A service fee charged when you are assigned a task, from 12.5 to 20% of the task price depending on your tier, with tax added to the fee. Source: Airtasker's help centre on the service fee, checked 12 Oct 2026 | Your reviews on that platform |
| Oneflare | No separate price to compare. oneflare.com.au redirected to airtasker.com, checked 12 Oct 2026 | Not a separate option now |
| Referrals and repeat work | Your time, and asking | The relationships |
Bark also sells weekly and monthly credit pack subscriptions. Its help centre page on credit pack subscriptions says they run for up to 12 months and then continue automatically unless you cancel, and that cancelling within the first three months may make you ineligible for future credit subscriptions. Check any platform’s current page before you rely on a price, including this one.
For the options you own, the detail is in other guides: the Google Business Profile guide covers setting up the profile, the review request templates cover asking customers after a job, and what a tradie website costs covers the build. The full list of channels is in marketing for tradies.
hipages beside a Kovus monthly plan
Both are paid monthly, but they buy different things. A hipages membership buys credits to spend on jobs that customers have already posted. A Kovus plan pays for a website you own and, on the SEO plan, the work on the site and the Google Business Profile that helps them get found. Google decides rankings, so a plan buys the work, not a set number of enquiries.
| Compared on | hipages membership | Hosting and edits, A$97 a month | Plus SEO, from A$197 a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| What the monthly fee buys | Lead credits to spend on jobs customers post, by the plans in the price table above | Hosting and CDN, a security and performance pass, uptime monitoring, verified backups and unlimited edits | Everything in the A$97 plan, plus ongoing SEO, the Google Business Profile and a monthly report |
| Contract | The term and renewal in your hipages contract | Month-to-month with no minimum term | Month-to-month with no minimum term |
| When you stop paying | The leads stop, and reviews collected on hipages stay on hipages | You own the website, content, domain and source code | You own the website, content, domain and source code |
Both plans are optional and sit beside a one-off website build of A$500 to A$1,000. The A$197 plan is also available for a website Kovus did not build. Every option, including the plans with no upfront build fee, is on the pricing page. Track website enquiries the same way as platform leads: where each job came from, and what it cost.
Run both for three months, then decide
You do not have to pick one. A lead platform can cover this month while the things you own get built.
- Claim and complete your Google Business ProfileServices, hours, service areas and photos from your own jobs. It is free, and it is yours.
- Ask every finished job for a Google reviewA review on your own profile stays with the business. A review inside a lead platform stays with the platform.
- Put up a website you ownA page for each real service, your phone number on every page, and your own domain.
- Write down where each job came fromLead platform, Google, a referral or a repeat customer. Three months of this is enough to see the pattern.
- Run the sum before the renewal dateCost per won job from the platform, beside the jobs that came from everything else. Then renew, change plan or give notice.
Where Kovus stands
Kovus builds websites and runs local SEO for trades. It does not sell leads, so it has an interest in how this comparison comes out, and you should weigh the guide with that in mind.
Website builds cost A$500 to A$1,000. The optional SEO plan is from A$197 a month and is month-to-month with no minimum term. Google decides rankings, and they are not guaranteed, so none of this is a promise that a website replaces a lead platform. What SEO for tradies covers each month is set out on its own page.
Frequently asked questions
Is hipages worth it for tradies?
It can be, for a trade business that needs work now, can answer a lead within minutes, and does jobs large enough to carry the cost of each one it wins. It is not worth it when the cost per won job is more than the profit in the job, or when the contract keeps billing after the leads stop paying. Run the sum on your own invoices over three months before deciding.
How much is hipages a month?
hipages' own membership costs page listed four lead plans as at 13 October 2026: Starter at $139, Advanced at $249, Premium at $449 and Platinum at $649 a month, all plus GST, with 155 to 850 lead credits a month. Plans start on a six-month introductory term and then renew on a 12-month term. The membership is not the whole cost: every lead takes credits, and hipages sets how many by trade, location, supply and demand, and the size of the job. For scale, the ACCC said in May 2023 that hipages subscriptions cost between $25 and $999 per month.
How do you cancel hipages?
Give notice in writing and keep the reply. Before you do, find three things in your own contract: when the current term ends, how much notice it needs before a renewal, and the early termination fee as a dollar figure. Notice given within that window, before the contract renews, is what stops a new term from starting. In May 2023 the ACCC said many subscribers were unaware they had to opt out of an automatic 12-month renewal, and that some who tried to cancel an auto-renewed contract were told they would have to pay out the full 12-month term. hipages undertook to clearly disclose its renewal and cancellation policies.
Is hipages cheaper than Airtasker?
They charge in different ways, so it depends on your jobs. Airtasker charges its service fee when you are assigned a task, at 12.5 to 20% of the task price according to its help centre, with tax added to the fee. On an A$800 task that is A$100 to A$160 before tax. hipages charges a monthly membership with lead credits, paid whether or not a lead becomes a job. Divide what each platform cost you by the jobs it won, and compare those two figures.
What is better than hipages?
No lead platform is better for every trade. The things still there when you stop paying are the ones you own: a Google Business Profile with your reviews on it, a website on your own domain, and referrals from past customers. Among the lead platforms, ServiceSeeking prices its membership mostly on the leads it expects to send you, Bark charges credits for each lead you choose to answer, and Airtasker takes a fee from each task. Compare them by the cost per won job over three months, not by the monthly fee.
What are the alternatives to hipages?
A Google Business Profile, a website you own, free directory listings such as Bing Places, Hotfrog and Localsearch, other lead platforms such as ServiceSeeking, Bark and Airtasker, and referrals from past customers. The profile, the website and the reviews stay with you if you stop paying for leads.
Is ServiceSeeking cheaper than hipages?
ServiceSeeking's price update of 17 June 2025 put membership as low as $129 including GST a month for most members, with 20% off for quarterly billing and 40% off for annual billing. Hold that against the hipages plan you would actually need, from the price table in this guide, then compare the cost per won job on each platform rather than the monthly fee.
Should I use hipages if I already have a website?
It can still make sense as a top-up when work is short. Keep tracking the cost per won job, and keep building the things you own alongside it: the Google Business Profile, the reviews and the site.
