Privacy policy
Privacy, in plain words.
Last updated: 11 September 2026
The short version: NurseLock has no account and no backend. Screen Time selections and study data never leave this iPhone. Blocking is free and never depends on a purchase. The only third parties are Apple, RevenueCat and, if you turn it on, Sentry. There is no advertising SDK and no analytics SDK. We do not sell personal information.
Who we are
NurseLock is an iPhone app for NCLEX-RN study, published on the App Store as NurseLock: NCLEX Study. It requires iOS 26.5 or later. It is developed by Josh Waller, trading as Kovus, in Perth, Western Australia. Contact josh@kovus.dev for privacy questions or requests.
Information stored on your device
NurseLock stores what it needs to run on this iPhone only. There is no Kovus account, no Kovus server and no cloud sync.
Study data is kept in a local SQLite database on the device, including:
- questions, answers and review history, using spaced repetition with FSRS;
- personal notes and saved questions;
- settings, the daily assignment and a completion outbox.
The app does not use runtime AI or cloud grading. Study data never leaves the device unless you export a backup or share a file yourself.
Screen Time selections
You choose apps or app categories to block with Apple Screen Time (Family Controls, ManagedSettings and DeviceActivity). That selection is stored only on the device, inside the app's App Group container, and is never sent anywhere.
Apple's Screen Time selection tokens are opaque. NurseLock cannot read which apps they represent. The app does not read your use of other apps. It only schedules and lifts its own restriction.
Purchases
NurseLock Pro is optional. Apple processes payment through the App Store. RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., United States) manages entitlements. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user identifier and purchase receipt data. It never receives study data or the Screen Time app selection.
Kovus does not receive your payment-card details. Read RevenueCat's privacy policy and Apple's privacy policy.
Diagnostics
Sharing diagnostics is off by default. A local diagnostics journal on this device records what NurseLock's blocking did: time, process and event. It contains no question text and no app names. It stays on the device. You can share it yourself if you choose.
If you turn on Share filtered error reports in Settings, sanitised JavaScript error reports go to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., United States). The payload is allowlisted to:
- event id;
- timestamp;
- platform, release, dist and environment;
- level;
- a feature tag;
- an error code;
- data schema and pack version; and
- a message chosen from a fixed table.
Those reports do not include question or answer text, selected apps, user identifiers, breadcrumbs, user-content stack traces, session replay or tracing. Native crash capture is off. Turning the toggle off stops reporting. Read Sentry's privacy policy.
NurseLock does not include an advertising SDK or an analytics SDK.
What we do not collect
NurseLock never requests location, camera, microphone, contacts or health access. Apple, RevenueCat and Sentry are the only third parties named in this policy.
Where service data is processed
Purchase records are processed by Apple and by RevenueCat in the United States. Optional error reports are processed by Sentry in the United States if you turn sharing on. Overseas providers can be subject to the laws of the countries in which they operate.
Export, retention and deletion
Local information remains until you delete it in Settings or remove the app. Settings includes Export backup, which writes a file with saved questions, review history, personal notes and supported preferences. You keep that file wherever you save it. Restore backup puts a backup file back into the app.
Delete all data first removes NurseLock's blocking, then deletes the local database and app-owned copies on the device. Purchases stay with Apple and can be restored.
Deleting the app removes local data. Remove restrictions first from the Recovery screen so the block does not linger. If NurseLock is already deleted and a block remains, review Screen Time access for NurseLock in iPhone Settings and restart the iPhone.
Apple, RevenueCat and Sentry also retain information under their own legal and operational obligations. Deleting NurseLock does not cancel a subscription.
Access, correction and privacy complaints
Email josh@kovus.dev to ask what personal information Kovus holds about you, request correction or deletion, or make a privacy complaint. Because study data and Screen Time selections stay on the device, Kovus does not hold a server copy of them. We will acknowledge a complaint and respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Children
NurseLock is designed for adult nursing students. It is not directed to children under 13.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy when the app or its service providers change. The current version and update date will remain on this page. Email josh@kovus.dev with a question or request.
