Snacco Terms of Service
Last updated: 12 July 2026
The short version: Snacco helps you check pet-food ingredients against a curated toxin database for dogs and cats. It is an informational tool, not veterinary advice, and a result that finds no toxins is not a guarantee that a food is safe. Always use your own judgement and your vet. These terms don't take away rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
1. Acceptance
By downloading or using Snacco (the "app"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. Snacco is published by Josh Waller, trading as Kovus ("we", "us"), based in Australia.
2. What Snacco is — and isn't
Snacco reads pet-food information three ways — by scanning an ingredients label, by scanning a barcode, or (on the paid tier) by photographing the food — and checks what it reads against a curated database of ingredients known to be toxic to dogs or cats — judged against your selected pet's species — plus Australian product recalls. It returns a plain verdict — Avoid, Check with your vet, orNo toxins detected — and tags each flagged ingredient as toxic orcaution with its source.
- Snacco is an informational tool only. It is not veterinary advice, a diagnosis, or a medical device, and it does not replace your veterinarian.
- A "no toxins detected" result means only that none of the ingredients we could read matched our database. It is not a guarantee that a food is safe, complete, or suitable for your pet. Labels can be incomplete, mis-printed, or unreadable; databases are never exhaustive.
- Snacco focuses on known dog and cat toxins, judged against the pet you select. It does not assess nutrition, allergies specific to your pet, portion size, freshness, or storage.
- If your pet has eaten something concerning, do not wait for the app — contact your veterinarian or the Animal Poisons Helpline on 1300 869 738 immediately.
3. No safety guarantee
We build Snacco to "never falsely say safe" — it is designed to err toward caution. But no automated tool can catch everything. You remain responsible for what you feed your pet, and you should always combine Snacco's output with the product's own labelling, your vet's advice, and your own judgement.
4. Acceptable use
You agree to use Snacco for its intended personal, non-commercial purpose, and not to misuse it — for example, by attempting to disrupt the service, reverse-engineer it other than as permitted by law, scrape it at scale, or use it to provide a competing commercial safety service.
5. Snacco+ subscription
Core label and barcode scanning is free. The optional "Can my dog or cat eat this?" photo check is part ofSnacco+, a paid auto-renewing subscription:
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the period ending.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription any time in your device's App Store account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Prices are shown in the app before purchase and may change with notice for future periods.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms; we generally cannot issue refunds directly.
6. Third-party data and content
Snacco draws on external sources, each owned by its respective provider:
- Barcode product data from Open Pet Food Facts, used under its open licence.
- Australian recall information derived from publicly published recall notices (e.g. the ACCC's Product Safety Australia recalls).
- Food identification on the photo path is performed using Anthropic's Claude API, solely to name the food (see the Privacy Policy).
We don't control or warrant third-party data and are not responsible for its accuracy.
7. Intellectual property
The Snacco app, its name, design, and the curated toxin database are owned by us or our licensors. These terms grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app; they don't transfer any ownership to you.
8. Your consumer rights and our liability
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any guarantee, right, or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Subject to those non-excludable rights, and to the maximum extent permitted by law: Snacco is provided "as is" and "as available"; we don't warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any result is complete or accurate; and we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any harm to a pet, arising from your use of or reliance on the app. Where our liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, it is limited to resupplying the service or paying the cost of having it resupplied.
9. Changes to the app and these terms
We may update, suspend, or discontinue features, and we may revise these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "last updated" date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that State and the Commonwealth of Australia.
